Qualifying for nationals

At each of the tournaments in the Columbia Cup series, teams have the opportunity to qualify to one or both of the following national tournaments. Usually, the top 4-8 teams qualify for nationals, though the exact number will depend on the final number of teams that attend. Please be aware that in tournaments separated into a “National” and “Standard” division, only teams in the “National” division can qualify to nationals. For more information, see the FAQ, or contact us.

Teams who qualify for both national tournaments are encouraged to attend both if finances will allow it; if not, then you are encouraged to choose based on the date, format, and/or location of each national tournament.

PACE National Scholastic Championship

The National Scholastic Championship is hosted annually by the Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence (PACE), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to expanding and improving quiz bowl across the country. More information about PACE, as well as the National Scholastic Championship, is available on their website. All three of the Columbia Cup tournaments will qualify teams for the National Scholastic Championship.
